American Exports: Joe Corona, Greg Garza go 90 minutes, but Tijuana held to draw by Cruz Azul

Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Joe Corona and Greg Garza both put in solid 90-minute shifts as Club Tijuana tied 0-0 against Cruz Azul Wednesday at Estadio Caliente.

Corona featured loosely on the left of midfield, but was given license to roam by coach Daniel Guzmán. One minute before halftime, the San Diego native struck a shot from the edge of the area straight into goalkeeper Jesús Corona’s hands. He also went down inside the penalty area in the 71st minute after a heavy challenge by Xavier Báez that had Xolos players clamoring for a foul.

Garza continued what he’s shown most of the season with a good performance defensively for the home side in the left back spot that he has nailed down since Edgar Castillo left over the summer. Paul Arriola was an unused substitute for Tijuana.

Xolos are now three points off the playoff spots in 12th position in Liga MX after 11 rounds of matches of the Apertura 2014.
