AMSTERDAM – English Championship strugglers Birmingham City are once again ruing the injury misfortunes of handyman Jonathan Spector after a Thursday scan showed the veteran will likely be sidelined for the rest of 2014 with a torn muscle in his right thigh.
The Illinois native was removed near full time of Saturday's home loss to Fulham after coming up lame. Spector had started eight of Birmingham's 10 league games this season, seven of those at right back.
"It's bad news," Brums press officer Andy Walker told MLSsoccer.com after the exam results came back on Thursday afternoon. "He's torn his thigh muscle and is looking at three months on the sidelines."
Currently three points above the danger line in 20th place out of 24 teams, Birmingham just got young American defender Will Packwood back from injury during Tuesday's sorely-needed win at Millwall. Both he and loan winger Brek Shea will be available when the club heads southeast to face Charlton on Saturday.
