American Exports: Will Packwood makes season debut in Birmingham City defense

AMSTERDAM – Birmingham City defender Will Packwood made his season bow in a winning cause on Tuesday night, working the final 19 minutes to help the visitors steal away from Millwall with a 3-1 Championship triumph.

Despite his short shift, the youngster managed five clearances. With Jonathan Spector nursing an injury and Brek Shea with the reserves to gain fitness, the Brums won for the first time in eight league contests to tentatively grab 19th place.

Around the league, Eric Lichaj went the distance at left back as suddenly punchless Nottingham Forest missed the chance to go tops by settling for a 0-0 home draw with lowly Wigan.

The Illinois native nearly notched an assist on 12 minutes, only to have his pinpoint cross fired just over at the back post. One of three clubs tied on 20 points through 10 matches, the Reds stand one goal in differential behind Norwich City in second place.

Also, Zak Whitbread took a seat as streaking Derby County blanked guests Bournemouth 2-0. The Rams, now unbeaten in nine games with three straight wins across all competitions, stand one point shy of the leaders in fourth place.
