GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jose Torres helped Tigres to a 1-0 victory over Leones Negros on Saturday in the ninth round of matches in the Liga MX’s Apertura 2014 championship.

The American featured for the full 90 minutes on the left of midfield as Tigres held onto an early lead after they went down to 10 players when Jorge Torres Nilo saw red in the 28th minute.

Torres was a positive for Tigres in his first start in the Liga MX for over a month, while Herculez Gomez came off the bench for the last 11 minutes.

Michael Orozco was a steady presence at center back for Puebla, as they came back to draw 1-1 against Chiapas, also on Saturday.

The defender received a yellow card four minutes from time, but was solid in defense for La Franja, who are now 16th in the relegation table and 10th in the Apertura 2014.

Club América’s Ventura Alvarado was also involved Saturday, when he came on in the 82nd to shore up the defense in Las Aguilas’ 2-1 win over Pachuca.

Atlas’ Edgar Castillo went 90 minutes in his team’s 2-1 victory over Cruz Azul and has now completed every minute for Los Rojinegros in the Apertura 2014.

The Las Cruces, N.M., native made a vital interception in the 56th with the score at 1-1, as Atlas moved to within two points of leader América.

In the Ascenso MX, Juan Pablo Ocegueda played the full game for Alebrijes de Oaxaca in their 1-1 tie with Necaxa.
