GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Club Tijuana took advantage of defensive errors to defeat Santos Laguna 4-1 on Friday in Estadio Caliente, with US internationals Greg Garza and Joe Corona both completing the full game.
Garza had a good game in general at left back, but gave away a penalty in the 34th minute when he slid in from behind on Colombian Darwin Quintero inside the box. Although Garza got a piece of the ball, he also got a lot of the player in what looked like a clear penalty.
Corona seems to be cementing his place under new Xolos coach Daniel Guzmán and has now played every minute of his team’s last five Liga MX games.
The San Diego native went close in the 15th minute with a shot from the left corner of penalty area and was confident in his passing from an attacking midfield position, especially in the second half.
The win puts Tijuana on 11 points from its nine games so far in the Apertura 2014.
In Mexico’s second division, Sonny Guadarrama went 49 minutes in Atlante’s 1-1 home draw against Mineros de Zacatecas, the club for which Marco Vidal featured inthe first half.
Also Friday, Stevie Rodriguez completed an hour of Dorados de Sinaloa’s 2-1 road win over Coras de Tepic.
