American Exports: John Brooks goes 90 minutes in busy shift, Andrew Wooten grabs late winner

John Anthony Brooks celebrates his winner for Hertha Berlin

AMSTERDAM – John Anthony Brooks went the distance as 10-man Hertha Berlin rallied deep into stoppage time for a 2-2 Bundesliga draw at Freiburg on Friday night.

The US defender was tested often in the early stages of the contest, and the visitors finally broke through partially at his expense on the half-hour. Marc-Oliver Kempf got between two Hertha players, including Brooks, to nod home a corner kick serve to for the opener.

Business got lighter for Brooks as the game went on, but he managed to total eight clearances and three pass interceptions to go with a second half yellow card. As for winless Hertha, the result at least temporarily pulled them out of the bottom three.

One floor down, Andrew Wooten played late Sandhausen hero for the second weekend in a row by firing the 1-0 winner at Aalen.

Though held in check by the hosts for much of his 88-minute shift, Wooten grabbed the game's only goal against the run of play with 10 minutes left on the clock. The striker accepted a long feed to break in alone and the home netminder could only alter the course his shot would take into the net.

With consecutive league wins for the first time since March, Sandhausen conditionally rose to 11th place.
