American Exports: Joe Corona, Greg Garza set to return for Club Tijuana in Liga MX battle vs. Santos Laguna

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Rested for Copa MX duty midweek, Joe Corona and Greg Garza are set to return for Club Tijuana in Friday’s tough home match against Santos Laguna in the Liga MX (10:30 pm ET; Azteca America, ESPN Deportes).



With the ninth round of the fixtures in the Apertura 2014 taking teams over the halfway point of the regular season, Xolos could move from 14th place on eight points into the pack of sides within touching distance of a playoff place with a victory.


New coach Daniel Guzmán started with both Garza and Corona in last weekend’s tie against Pachuca, while Paul Arriola could be used off the bench inside Estadio Caliente.



On Saturday, Michael Orozco’s Puebla faces another key relegation battle, this time at home in Estadio Cuauhtémoc against Gabrial Farfan’s Chiapas (6 pm ET; Azteca America, ESPN Deportes).


Herculez Gomez and Jose Torres both started in the Copa MX midweek and will be hoping for minutes in the Liga MX, when ninth-placed Tigres take on struggling Leones Negros at home (8 pm ET; Univision Deportes).



And in Saturday’s final game, Atlas left back Edgar Castillo is set to feature against Cruz Azul in Guadalajara (10 pm ET; Univision Deportes), with the Rojinegros potentially moving to the top of the Liga MX with a victory.



On Sunday, Alonso Hernandez’s Monterrey travels to Toluca and could also improve into first place with victory, if Club América doesn’t win (1 pm ET; Univision Deportes).


In Mexico’s second division, Sonny Guadarrama’s Atlante host Mineros de Zacatecas (Friday, 8 pm ET), with Stevie Rodriguez’s Dorados away at Coras (Friday, 10 pm ET).


Juan Pablo Ocegueda’s Alebrijes host Nexaca on Saturday (8 p.m. ET).
