Safe to say 2014 won't be one of Giuseppe Rossi's most memorable years.
Italian side Fiorentina announced on Monday that their US-born forward will be undergoing "diagnostic arthroscopic surgery to resolve the current problems in his right knee." The procedure is set to take place this week and it was not clear how long he would have to sit out.
The Italian Serie A season kicked off this past weekend with the Viola losing to AS Roma 2-0.
It will mark yet another knee surgery for Rossi, who missed out on Italy's 2014 World Cup squad. The problems with his right knee started in 2011, when he tore his right ACL with Villarreal and tore it again on his return.
He moved to Fiorentina and became a starter for the team in the 2013-'14 season, when he exploded for 14 goals in 18 matches before spraining the MCL in the same right knee in January 2014, an injury that ultimately cost him a place in Brazil 2014.
Reports in Italy claim that the right knee was causing Rossi problems last month with the inflammation and pain requiring another surgery.
