AMSTERDAM – Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that the minor abdominal strain suffered by Geoff Cameron in Wednesday night's Capital One Cup victory will likely keep Cameron out of action for a couple of weeks.
The US international was removed from the 3-0 win over Portsmouth about six minutes before halftime. During Thursday's pre-weekend press conference, Hughes revealed that Cameron would not be in uniform when the Potters travel to face defending English Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
"[He] won't be in the squad this weekend, which is disappointing," Hughes told assembled reporters on Thursday afternoon. "Both he and Stephen Ireland are likely to be out for a number of weeks, but thankfully we have a good squad here, so there are good players waiting to come in."
Speaking of his squad, Hughes also aired his doubt that any transfer movement will take place at the Britannia before Monday night's summer transfer window deadline. Though Cameron is currently the subject of inquiries from the likes of Southampton and Sunderland, the Stoke manager has no desire to sell his American handyman.
"I don't think there will be much happening here, to be perfectly honest, in terms of incomings or outgoings," stated Hughes. "You never know, things may change at the weekend, but I am very happy with the options I have available to me. Hopefully I will be sitting at home watching the [transfer deadline] madness unfold on the television."
