American Exports: Jozy Altidore puts in sub shift as Sunderland draw EPL giants Manchester United

Jozy Altidore, Sunderland

AMSTERDAM – Several Americans laced up overseas on Sunday, with Jozy Altidore putting in a solid 17-minute shift in Sunderland's 1-1 home share with Manchester United.

Despite limited touches, the US striker effectively led three counters, including a 60-yard ramble out of his own end that ran out of room at the Red Devils area. Unbeaten through two rounds, Sunderland are now 2-1-1 in their last four meetings with United.

Elsewhere, Geoff Cameron went unused in Stoke City's 1-1 draw away to 10-man Hull City. With their first point of the season earned, the Potters rose to 14th place.

Tottenham back-up netminder Brad Friedel watched on as the hosts taught promoted Queens Park Rangers a 4-0 lesson. Barring a similar blowout victory for either Liverpool or Manchester City on Monday night, Spurs will finish the round in first place.

In the final game of the Bundesliga's opening weekend, Fabian Johnson worked 13 minutes off the bench as Borussia Mönchengladbach clawed back in the last minute for a 1-1 home share with Stuttgart. The Foals moved to five games without a loss at home.

In nearby Belgium, Sacha Kljestan was an unused sub as Anderlecht edged visiting Waasland-Beveren. The three-time reigning champs tentatively moved three points clear at the top while staying unbeaten in five games this term.
