American Exports: Julian Green dresses, does not see field in Bayern Munich season opener

AMSTERDAM – A few young Americans suited up for Friday night action in Germany, and though he didn't see the field, Julian Green was one of the 18 players dressed as Bayern Munich kicked off their Bundesliga title defense by topping Wolfsburg 2-1.

Meanwhile, one flight down in the 2. Bundesliga, Bobby Wood and early strugglers 1860 Munich clawed back for a 2-2 share away to newcomers FC Heidenheim.

The Lions left winger worked an active 83 minutes, but came up empty on final product despite several threatening advances into the home penalty area. Wood's greatest moment of frustration came after firing well over the bar off a close range rebound just past the hour mark. Mere moments later, new 1860 striker Leonardo opened his club account to earn the visitors their first point in three league games.

Andrew Wooten came on for the final six minutes as Sandhausen leaked a late 2-1 decider at St. Pauli. The forward was able to bust in alone just after entering a tie game, but had his shot smothered by Pirates netminder Philipp Tschauner.
