Changes in the works: Columbus Crew to reveal new logo and brand October 8

Anthony Precourt, Columbus Crew owner

A new era in Columbus is on the horizon.

The Columbus Crew announced on Wednesday that they will reveal their new logo and brand for the club on Oct. 8.

While the club has not revealed any details on the new look ahead of the announcement, changes to the club have been expected since Anthony Precourt bought the team in July 2013

In February, Precourt said a change to the team's crest was in the works, as he claimed, "We don't see Columbus in the crest."

The pattern in the message alerting the public to the date of the announcement may offer an indication of the direction of the logo and brand:

The Crew are one of three original MLS teams to keep its crest to the present, although the New England Revolution and D.C. United have made minor modifications over the years. Recently, the San Jose Earthquakes have changed their crest at the start of this year, and Sporting Kansas City completely rebranded ahead of the 2011 season.
