American Exports: Greg Garza cements his left-back spot, but Club Tijuana still winless

Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Greg Garza put in another solid performance at left back for Club Tijuana on Friday night, but the border club couldn’t pick up a victory in a scoreless draw at Morelia.

Garza (above) was the only American in Tijuana head coach César Farías’ starting lineup, with Joe Corona coming off the bench in the 84th minute. Garza has established his starting spot this season and was heavily involved, both defending and getting forward to support the attack.

But Cristian Pellerano skied a second-half penalty over the bar, leaving Xolos winless in four matches to start the Apertura season.

In Mexico’s second division, Sonny Guadarrama went 75 minutes in Atlante’s 2-1 victory over Irapuato in Cancún, while Marco Vidal went the full 90 in Mineros de Zacatecas’ 1-0 home win over Dorados de Sinaloa.
