American Exports: Jose Torres, Herculez Gomez in battle of undefeateds as Tigres face America

Jose Torres with Tigres UANL

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jose Torres’ Tigres UANL host league leaders Club América (Sat., 8 pm ET, Univision Deportes) in the tie of the weekend in the Liga MX, with both teams’ undefeated record on the line in week four of matches in the Apertura 2014.

Torres was rested in Tigres’ Copa MX loss midweek and is likely to start on the wing in front of a packed Estadio Universitario. Herculez Gomez did play in the cup game, but is also in contention for playing time for Tigres.

Gabriel Farfan’s Chiapas have also got a tough fixture, with the team from southern Mexico hosting reigning champion León on Saturday (10 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

It's also an important weekend for Club Tijuana’s band of Americans, with Xolos having failed to win any of their first three games this season. On Friday, Joe Corona, Paul Arriola, Greg Garza and the rest of Tijuana’s team faces Morelia (8:30 pm ET, Azteca America, ESPN Deportes), a side that hasn’t managed to score a goal in 270 minutes so far this season.

Scoring goals is something Atlas’ Edgar Castillo hasn’t been short of. The Rojinegros face a tough trip to Mexico City to play Pumas UNAM on Sunday (1 pm ET, Univision Deportes) and could move top of the league with a victory combined with América slipping up.

Joining them in Mexico’s capital is Michael Orozco’s Puebla, who face Cruz Azul (Sat., 6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

Jonathan Bornstein is a doubt for Querétaro’s trip to Santos Laguna (Sat., 9 pm ET, Azteca America), after coming off injured in the cup against Irapuato on Tuesday.

In Mexico’s second division, Stevie Rodriguez’s Dorados de Sinaloa play Marco Vidal’s Mineros in Zacatecas (Fri., 8:30 pm ET).

Also Friday, Sonny Guadarrama’s Atlante are at home against Irapuato (8 pm ET).
