On Thursday Landon Donovan announced that he will be retiring at the end of this season. This means you only have a few more opportunities to see an all-time great in person.
The Galaxy have 15 games left in their season, tied for the most games of any team in the league. Nine of those games will come at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., but there are six more road games in MLS during the regular season. They're mostly spread across North America, including some of the cities where he created his legend.
First up is a road match in Columbus, Ohio on Aug. 16. Crew Stadium is where Donovan helped USA beat Mexico on three separate occasions in World Cup qualifying. Perhaps his last memorable moment with the national team shirt came in the stadium when he scored the second goal in the US’ 2-0 win over Mexico back in September.
Donovan will visit Colorado one last time on Aug. 20, and then fans in Quebec will catch their last glimpse on Sept. 10, when the Galaxy take on the Monteal Impact at Stade Saputo.
The Earthquakes will get one last shot at redemption against Donovan at Buck Shaw Stadium on Sept. 14. He famously left the club after his MLS debut with the Quakes and sided with the Galaxy in 2005, forever driving a wedge between the two sides and helping foster one of the best rivalries in the league.
Then it's off to Texas on Oct. 12 for a match against FC Dallas, a team he has scored more goals against (20) than any other team in his career.
Donovan’s last MLS regular season game will come on the road against the Seattle Sounders at CenturyLink Field on Oct. 25 (2:30 pm ET, NBC). Donovan has scored two goals in seven career regular-season appearances there, and the match should have major postseason and/or Supporters' Shield implications.
