American Exports: Herculez Gomez, Tigres fall to Austin Guerrero's Altamira in Copa MX play

Herculez Gomez is consoled after losing the SuperCopa MX with Tigres

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Goalkeeper Austin Guerrero helped Ascenso MX team Altamira to a 3-1 home victory on Wednesday against Herculez Gomez’s Tigres UANL in the Copa MX group stage.

The Californian shot-stopper – playing against his former club – rushed out well to stop Ecuadorian Joffre Guerrón in the 42nd minute and tipped the ball over from the same player’s shot in the 66th. Gomez went 81 minutes up front and had a good chance to hand Tigres in the lead in the eighth minute, but Gerardo Lugo’s pull-back from the left was a little behind the American, who headed over.

The result tightens Group 1, with Tigres in first on four points after two games and Altamira propping up the table in fourth with three points.

In Group 7, Gabriel Farfan logged an hour for Chiapas in their 0-0 tie against Lobos BUAP at Estadio Zoque. He went close to scoring the game’s only goal when his effort two minutes before halftime went sailing just over the crossbar.

Chiapas props up the group on one point, with Lobos BUAP top on five points. Only the group winner is guaranteed to advance to the knockout stages.
