Player of the Month

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Benny Feilhaber voted Etihad Airways Player of the Month for July

Another month, another Etihad Airways Player of the Month nod for the defending MLS Cup champions.

After leading Sporting Kansas City to a 4-0-1 mark for the month with two goals, an assist and miles of sterling work in the center of the park, midfielder Benny Feilhaber has won the award for July, as voted by fans on MLSsoccer.com.

Feilhaber is the third consecutive SKC star to take the honor, following in the footsteps of teammates Eric Kronberg and Dom Dwyer. Sporting's undefeated July helped them assert their place at the top of the Eastern Conference standings and pull ahead of Seattle in the Supporters' Shield race.

The Brazilian-born playmaker set up his team's opening goal, then blasted home a late winner at Columbus on July 16, and netted an important strike in a 2-1 win over the LA Galaxy three days later. He logged the full 90 minutes in all five of KC's matches over the month.

Feilhaber has now notched three goals and five assists in 21 games this season.

New York Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright-Phillips finished a distant second in POTM voting after scoring five goals and adding one assist in July, followed by Galaxy youngster Gyasi Zardes, who netted four goals to help LA surge back up the West table.

Sporting visit the Vancouver Whitecaps this Sunday (8 pm ET, MLS LIVE, TSN/RDS2 in Canada) and host Toronto FC a week later before opening their CONCACAF Champions League campaign against Real Esteli on Aug. 19.
