After considering options to give Santiago Gonzalez more playing time, the Montreal Impact announced on Friday they have loaned the young forward to Uruguayan club Danubio FC.

The 22-year-old, has made nine league appearances, all off the bench, this season, and also played two games during the Impact's successful Amway Canadian Championship campaign this year.

Gonzalez was linked to Danubio last month, as the Impact tried to decide where the striker would have the best chance of getting competitive minutes.

"It’s taken him some time to adjust here. He’s still a quality player, but our league is a little bit different. More physical, more pacy," Impact head coach Frank Klopas said about Gonzalez at the time. "He’s a young guy, and maybe he needs games."

The Uruguay native joined the Impact in February, after playing the first three years of his career with Institución Atlética Sud América, in Uruguay's first and second divisions.
