AMSTERDAM – Red Bull Leipzig have lost fresh catch Terrence Boyd until September after he suffered an ACL injury in Sunday's 2-0 win over friendly guests Queens Park Rangers.
The US forward, who arrived earlier this summer from Rapid Vienna, came up lame after crashing into a QPR player near the final whistle. While Boyd's injury does not require surgery, his competitive debut for Die Roten Bullen will have to wait.
"After a partial tear of the [ACL] in his right knee, Terrence Boyd has been ruled out for least 10 weeks," read a statement on the official club website. "That is the diagnosis of the knee specialist Dr. Ulrich Boenisch in Augsburg."
Boyd joined the ambitious 2.Bundesliga outfit after bagging 37 goals in 80 overall appearances for Rapid, including an American-record eight Europa League tallies. On Monday, the 23-year-old tweeted the news to his followers, promising to "come back stronger" for both the Red Bulls and the US national team.
The Leipzig crew will now open the new season without the striker when Aalen come to town on Saturday.
