Goal of the Matchday

Portland Timbers' Diego Valeri runs away with AT&T Goal of the Week award for long-range strike

The Portland Timbers won their first home game since May last weekend, and it was Diego Valeri's impressive long-range shot that helped make it happen.

Valeri scored an absolutely stunning goal in the Timbers' 2-1 defeat of the Colorado Rapids, firing a swerving shot that found the top corner of the net in the 77th minute. The goal was Valeri's fourth of the season, helped Portland win at Providence Park for the first time since May 3 and was the winner of Week 19's AT&T MLS Goal of the Week award by quite some distance.

The Argentine collected more than half of the week's vote, beating out impressive strikers from Sporting Kansas City's Benny Feilhaber and Bernardo Anor of the Columbus Crew.

Final Votes (Week 19):

  1. Diego Valeri (POR): 54.05%
  2. Benny Feilhaber (SKC): 22.02%
  3. Bernardo Anor (CLB): 9.32%
  4. Robbie Keane (LA): 8.8%
  5. Andres Escobar (FCD): 5.81%
