All-Star: Julian Green included in Bayern Munich's first team as US preseason tour draws near

Julian Green - April 2, 2014

Julian Green made an impression on US national team fans with his World Cup goal last month, and he'll have a few opportunities to build on that burgeoning reputation in the coming weeks.

Green has been named to Bayern Munich's first-team roster ahead of the German club's preseason preparations in the United States, a club spokesman confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Monday. The 19-year-old winger is expected to be available in Bayern's pair of upcoming stateside friendlies vs. Club Deportivo Guadalajara at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on July 31 and against the MLS All-Stars at Providence Park in Portland, Ore., on Aug. 6.

A surprise and oft-criticized selection on Jurgen Klinsmann's US World Cup roster, Green made a splash earlier this summer when he came off the bench and quickly scored a classy goal in his tournament debut against Belgium in the Round of 16.

The goal -- which made Green the youngest US player to ever score in a World Cup and marked his first tally at the international level -- was not enough to prevent the Americans from bowing out of the tournament with a 2-1 extratime loss.

Green signed a pro contract with Bayern Munich last November. He made his debut for the club with a late appearance in a UEFA Champions League match, but has yet to make an appearance in Bundesliga play.
