An independent review panel spared one player this week while another saw a dangerous tackle punished with a suspension by the MLS Disciplinary Committee.
Columbus midfielder Bernardo Añor saw red against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday after kicking the ball at a fallen Chris Duvall (watch the play here) in the 85th minute of the Crew's 4-1 defeat. Referee Ted Unkel deemed it worthy of an ejection, but Añor submitted an appeal via the MLS Players Union, which was upheld upon independent review. As such, the left back will be eligible to play against the Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday (7:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
The panel that upheld Añor's suspension consists of one representative each from the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association, and Professional Referees Organization (PRO).
Rapids defender Shane O’Neill, meanwhile, wasn't so fortunate. Despite receiving a yellow card for his tackle on the Union's Danny Cruz on Saturday, a late lunge that caught the midfielder's leg (watch the play here), the Disciplinary Commitee suspended O'Neill for one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for serious foul play which endangered the safety of an opponent. He will miss Colorado's visit to Portland on Friday (11 pm ET, NBCSN).
