American Exports: Mikkel Diskerud nets in Europa League qualifying on return from World Cup

Mix Diskerud, Rosenborg

AMSTERDAM – Mikkel Diskerud returned to club life with a bang on Thursday night, scoring a picturesque capper to Rosenborg's 2-0 (6-0 aggregate) Europa League first qualifying round ouster of Latvian hosts FK Jelgava.

The US midfielder worked a full RBK shift after failing to appear in four World Cup 2014 matches. Diskerud did well to shake off the competitive rust, closing the scoring with a highlight reel strike on 73 minutes.

The man affectionately known as "Mix" made it look easy in netting with a one-time lob off Morten Gamst Pedersen's long diagonal ball. After perfectly timing his right-channel run to get behind the defense, Diskerud applied a gentle touch to the feed while in stride to fool the home netminder.

The Troll Kids are now lined up to host Irish outfit Sligo Rovers in next Thursday's second qualifying round opener, with the return set for the following week. The tie winner will earn a seed for the third qualifying round draw.
