Player of the Month

Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Eric Kronberg voted Etihad Airways Player of the Month for June

Sporting Kansas City may have been missing arguably two of their most important players on World Cup duty during the month of June, but they were still atop the Eastern Conference at the end of it.

The defending MLS Cup champions can thank goalkeeper Eric Kronberg, who was named the Etihad Airways Player of the Month for June, as voted by fans on MLSsoccer.com.

The California native, who turned 31 in June, registered two road shutouts in both of Sporting KC's regular season matches during the month: a 2-0 win in Houston (June 6) and a 1-0 victory in Portland (June 27).

Kronberg currently leads the league with seven shutouts and goals against average (0.88) for players with at least 10 starts.

Vancouver playmaker Pedro Morales and Montreal goalscorer Jack McInerney finished behind Kronberg, who garnered 45.43 percent of the vote, to make him the second consecutive Sporting Kansas City player to earn Etihad Airways Player of the Month honors after teammate Dom Dwyer.

Kronberg and Sporting Kansas City open July by hosting the Chicago Fire on Sunday, July 6 in a nationally televised match on ESPN (3 pm ET).
