GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Herculez Gomez got his Tigres UANL career off to a fine start on Wednesday, with a goal in his second appearance this preseason for his new club.
Gomez brought the ball down inside the penalty area and scored on the turn in the 23rd minute as Tigres went into halftime at 2-0 up against Ascenso MX side Correcaminos.
The team slipped in the second half to a 3-2 defeat, after coach Ricardo Ferretti put on the team’s Under-20 players at the break at Monterrey's Estadio Universitario.
Jose Torres also played the first half for Tigres as the team continues to build up to their Liga MX opener in Guadalajara against Atlas on July 19.
Former FC Dallas goalkeeper Richard Sanchez made his Tigres debut this past Saturday as a second-half sub in a friendly at the NASL's San Antonio Scorpions. The newly signed Mexican youth international hesitated in coming out for a cross in the 65th minute, spilling the ball and giving up a goal in his team’s 2-1 victory.
Gomez and Torres both started that game, too, the former coming off after 50 minutes and the latter completing the full 90 minutes.
