American Exports: Brad Friedel signs one-year deal with Tottenham, will serve as club ambassador

Brad Friedel and Tottenham celebrate advancing past Inter Milan in Europa League

Brad Friedel will be sticking with Tottenham Hotspur for a little longer.

The English Premier League club announced on Monday that it has signed the 43-year-old to a one-year extension that will also see the veteran goalkeeper serve as a club ambassador.

The new role will require Friedel to have particular focus on work in the US, where he will have a wide range of responsibilities that includes greater involvement in Spurs' global coaching program and engaging with the 30 Tottenham supporters clubs across North America.

Friedel has been with the Premiership club since the start of the 2011-12 season. He was the starter during that campaign, but subsequently lost the No. 1 spot to French netminder Hugo Lloris.

The former US national team goalkeeper made one start for Tottenham in league play last season, playing in a 1-0 home loss to Newcastle United on Nov. 10.
