World Cup: Germany star Marco Reus officially ruled out of Brazil 2014, replaced by Shkodran Mustafi

Marco Reus injured vs. Armenia

The US national team has one less headache heading into Brazil 2014.

What are the USA's chances against Germany after the loss of Marco Reus?

German star midfielder Marco Reus was officially ruled out of the World Cup with a partial tear of an ankle ligament which will force him to miss six to seen weeks. He suffered the injury just before halftime of Germany's 6-1 goal-fest against lowly Armenia on Friday (see injury below) in a challenge with Artur Yedigaryan.

"For him and for us, this is extremely regrettable," Germany manager Joachim Löw told media on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was surprislngly replaced by Sampdoria defender Shkodran Mustafi.

"It is not about us replacing Marco Reus one on one," Löw said. "Our quality in the position behind the strikers is very high. We have Lukas Podolski, Andre Schürrle, Mario Götze, Thomas Müller, Mesut Özil, Julian Draxler and Toni Kroos to give us plenty of alternatives.

"That's why we decided for another option for the defensive area. Shkodran impressed us in training camp. He's fit, we have confidence in him."
