American Exports: Herculez Gomez set to leave Tijuana for Tigres UANL

Herculez Gomez reacts to a call against the LA Galaxy in the CCL

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – It seems Herculez Gomez’s immediate future is not in MLS. According to a source with knowledge of the deal, the Club Tijuana striker is set to complete a move to Liga MX outfit Tigres UANL shortly.

The 32-year-old Gomez joined Club Tijuana last summer, but a knee injury cut short his playing time in the Apertura 2013. After a positive start under César Farías in the Clausura 2014, the striker didn’t appear to be in the coach’s plans going forward.

Tigres would be Gomez’s sixth club in Mexico and the move would link the Las Vegas native back up with Jose Torres, with the duo former teammates with both the US national team and at Pachuca.

Gomez made an immediate impact after moving to Puebla from MLS in 2010, becoming the first American to finish atop a goalscoring chart of a foreign league in the Bicentenario 2010.
