A critical match in the final positioning in the Western Conference is ahead as part of Decision Day when Seattle Sounders FC entertain Real Salt Lake at CenturyLink Field on Sunday afternoon. Sounders FC still have yet to secure their place in the top six in the West ā€“ and could still finish as high as second place and claim a bye for the first round ā€“ following their 1-1 draw at the Houston Dynamo that extended their undefeated run. Real saw their string of seven consecutive MLS Cup Playoffs appearances come to an end last weekend, following their 1-0 loss to FC Dallas at Tio Tinto Stadium.

  • Sounders FC played to their third consecutive draw, their undefeated streak now at seven games, following their 1-1 tie at the Houston Dynamo on Sunday afternoon. Obafemi Martins scored his eighth goal over the last nine games, his sixth goal during the undefeated run.
  • Real Salt Lake saw their streak of seven consecutive appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs put to an end following their 1-0 defeat by FC Dallas at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday evening.
  • The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Javier Morales and Sebastian Jaime netted goals early in the match to pace Real to a 2-0 win Aug. 22 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
  • Sounders FC have won the last three meetings between the teams at CenturyLink Field. The 3-2 Sounders FC win in the last meeting there, on Sept. 12, 2014, marked the first goals scored by RSL in five trips to Seattle in all competitions; they had last scored at CenturyLink Field on May 12, 2012.
  • Sounders FC last won in league play at Rio Tinto Stadium on May 28, 2011, a span of five games. Real have won their last four home games vs. Seattle.
