VIDEO: Tottenham's Brad Friedel reads, responds to "mean tweets" about being old | SIDELINE

Brad Friedel, Tottenham Hotspur (Oct. 20, 2012)

Be kind to your elders — that's what our parents told us when we were young.

What they surely didn't mean by that was "make jokes about legendary — abeit, older — American soccer players on Twitter." I also feel fairly confident in saying that if you absolutely must do so, they would have told you, "don't say anything you won't say
straight to their face
while mentioning them in the tweet."

Former US national team goalkeeper Brad Friedel is a pretty perfect case study for "old" jokes on Twitter. Every time he plays for Tottenham Hotspur, the social media site is inundated with "Brad Friedel is so old/Brad Friedel looks like" jokes.

Guess what jokesters? Brad Friedel has read your "Brad Friedel is old" and other mean Brad Friedel tweets (above video), and he's really not all that impressed.

If Brad Friedel were to read and respond to every "Brad Friedel is old" joke that's ever been tweeted, we'd be here longer than, well, Brad Friedel's been alive already.
