Win an MLS Cup championship, brew your own commemorative championship beer by which to remember it.

That's essentially the path that 2013 MLS Cup champions Sporting Kansas City seem to have taken in announcing that they've teamed up with popular Kansas City-based brewery Boulevard Brewing Company.

Sporting Kansas City Championship Ale will be a crisp, refreshing Saison-style ale, featuring late hopping with Mandarina Bavaria, a new German hop with distinct tangerine and citrus flavors. Championship Ale is expected to hit shelves around mid-June, just in time for this summer's World Cup.

But Kansas Citians, you'll have to be quick on the draw as Boulevard only plans to release 2,000 cases of 750-milliliter bottles throughout the KC metro area.

“We are extremely honored to have Boulevard celebrate our MLS Cup victory with the creation of Sporting Kansas City Championship Ale,” said Andy Tretiak, chief marketing officer at Sporting Club. “We felt pretty confident our mutual fans would love the idea of us doing a beer together. To see the bottles actually going through production is incredibly cool.”

Soccer-inspired beers — we approve of such things.
