Montreal Impact president and owner Joey Saputo took to his personal Twitter account Saturday to express his discontent with his club’s sour start to 2014, vowing even more upheaval for an a club that’s already seen plenty of change in three seasons in Major League Soccer.
The Impact fell 3-0 Sporting Kansas City at Stade Saputo after losing midfielder Collen Warner to an early red card, marking their fifth loss in nine games this season. They’ve won just two of their last 17 regular season games dating back to last season.
Saputo and the Impact parted ways with head coach Jesse Marsch after a promising expansion season in 2012 and then cut ties with Marco Schallibaum after he led them to the Eastern Conference playoffs, where they fell to the Houston Dynamo in the knockout round. The club hired former Chicago Fire head coach Frank Klopas in December, while Nick De Santis has served as the team’s technical director since 2008, before the team joined MLS.
Along with their MLS woes, the Impact lost in the first game of their Amway Canadian Championship semifinal series to NASL side Edmonton FC, 2-1. The teams will complete the series on May 14 at Stade Saputo before the Impact return to MLS action on May 17 at D.C. United.
