San Jose Earthquakes defender Andreas Gorlitz tears ACL, will miss rest of season

After going down injured in Wednesday's scoreless draw against the Colorado Rapids, the San Jose Earthquakes announced on Thursday that defender Andreas Gorlitz will miss the rest of the 2014 season because of a torn ACL.

The German, 32, signed in the offseason after more than a decade spent playing in his native Germany, including time with Bayern Munich, made three appearances, all starts, for the Quakes in league play this season, after struggling with injuries to start the year.

Gorlitz will undergo surgery to repair the torn ACL on his right knee on Friday.
