MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends DC United's Lewis Neal, Commissioner fines Jay Heaps

D.C. United's Lewis Neal was handed a one-game suspension by the MLS Disciplinary Committee on Thursday and was fined an undisclosed amount for a fourth-minute tackle on New England Revolution right back Andrew Farrell last Saturday at RFK Stadium (WATCH IT HERE).

The play earned Neal a yellow card on the field, but the Disicplinary Committee ruled that the tackle constituted "serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent." Neal will sit out the Atlantic Cup match against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday (7 pm ET, MLS LIVE).

There was additional discipline handed down on Thursday by MLS Commissioner Don Garber, who fined New England Revolution head coach Jay Heaps for his dismissal in the 89th minute of the same match. The fine comes on top of the one-game suspension that Heaps will serve when the Revs host the Houston Dynamo on Saturday (5 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
