Scoring two goals as a defender sure makes quite an impact. According to the Castrol Index, the performance of San Jose Earthquakes defender Víctor Bernárdez was the best of Week 2.
The San Jose-Real Salt Lake match on Saturday night produced not only the top performance of the weekend, but Joao Plata (No. 3) and Chris Wondolowski (T-No. 4) also appeared in the top five. Plata placed third this week, producing a goal and an assist, after coming in first last week. Two other players from that game, Steven Lenhart (No. 6) and Shea Salinas (No. 16), appeared in the top 20 this week.
Thierry Henry (No. 2) and Aurélien Collin (No. 5) round out the top five this week, each giving their teams 1-0 leads before seeing their tallies matched.
Forwards again grabbed the most spots in the top 20 this week, collecting nine of them. Jermain Defoe (No. 7), in his first game in MLS, was one of those nine forwards after scoring twice in Seattle to lead his Toronto FC side to victory.
