SiriusXM to offer extensive, live coverage of Major League Soccer during 2014 season

NEW YORK Major League Soccer and SiriusXM announced on Thursday that the satellite radio giant will offer live, nationwide coverage of MLS matches during the 2014 season, including a live “MLS Game of the Week” broadcast throughout the regular season plus coverage of the MLS Cup Playoffs.


The coverage  - which includes the most extensive schedule aired by the satellite radio provider to date - will air on SiriusXM FC (channel 94), the company’s exclusive 24/7 soccer channel.


“Major League Soccer continues to grow in popularity and we’re excited to expand our coverage to deliver more MLS games than ever before to our listeners across the country,” Steve Cohen, SiriusXM’s SVP of Sports Programming, said in a statement.  “Soccer fans are among the most passionate fans in sports and SiriusXM FC offers those fans a level of access to their sport that few other media outlets do.”


This week’s matchup will feature the host Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC on Saturday (4 pm ET) in a matchup between US national team stars Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley.


SiriusXM’s coverage will include a live broadcast of the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game between the MLS All-Stars and European Champion FC Bayern Munich on Aug. 6, and the networkwill also offer extensive coverage of the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs, including MLS Cup.


In addition to live play-by-play, SiriusXM FC will air MLSsoccer.com’s ExtraTime Radio show, covering the world of Major League Soccer and featuring guests from around the North American soccer scene.
