US national team forward Jozy Altidore's disappointing season at English Premier League side Sunderland dropped a little further on Sunday when the big targetman was left out of the 18 for the final of the Capital One Cup, a.k.a. the League Cup, against Manchester City.
Big disappointment for Jozy Altidore to miss out on League Cup Final place for Sunderland v Man C.— Ian Darke (@IanDarke) March 2, 2014
The disappointment was especially big for many USMNT fans who hoped Altidore might break through under the spotlight of a cup final. The 24-year-old forward has struggled for much of the season, scoring only once since his high-profile move from AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie.

But maybe, in the end, it was for the best. Sunderland squandered a one-goal halftime lead, eventually falling 3-1.
