American Exports: Jermaine Jones solid in Besiktas debut, Alejandro Bedoya shut out in Nantes loss

AMSTERDAM – Jermaine Jones worked a 58 solid minutes in his Besiktas debut as the home side settled for a 0-0 draw with visiting Antalyaspor in Turkish Süper Lig play on Friday.

The US international midfielder, who was playing for the first time since before Christmas, could have notched an assist just past the half-hour mark with a sharper finish to his cross. The failure to score cost third-place Besiktas a chance to tentatively grab hold of the league's lone Champions League group-stage pass.

Over in France's Ligue 1, Alejandro Bedoya endured some hard luck in front of goal as slumping Nantes dropped a 2-0 decision at Évian.

The Canaries' No. 10 had several chances go wrong in the early stages of his 67-minute shift. Bedoya got behind the defense to strike the far post in just the fourth minute, had two good looks at goal blocked scant moments later and then came up just short of a cross midway through the opening frame.

Now 0-4-2 in their last six league games, Nantes slipped to 14th place.

Meanwhile, John Anthony Brooks went unused as Hertha Berlin hosted a 0-0 stalemate with Freiburg. The Old Lady remained seventh in the table, shy of a Europa League place by goal difference.
