AMSTERDAM – Incessant US national team wingback woes continued on Saturday, as FC Nürnberg announced right back Timothy Chandler suffered a torn meniscus injury that is expected to keep him out until April.

The 23-year-old was removed after just 10 minutes of their 2-0 home loss against Bayern Munich. Though it was initially suspected be a calf problem, a hospital scan showed Chandler had damage to his left knee instead.

The World Cup hopeful has enjoyed a revival in form this season, recently notching consecutive Bundesliga Team of the Week mentions. Though mentioned this week by US boss Jurgen Klinsmann as a player who could make a late squad charge for the summer tournament, this setback will likely keep Chandler sidelined until the final four to six weeks before of the roster deadline.

Among those to see time at fullback during this World Cup cycle, Chandler joins Steve Cherundolo, Eric Lichaj and Jonathan Spector as competitors for a trip to Brazil currently on their respective club shelves.
