GUADALAJARA, Mexico – It was another difficult away day for Club Tijuana, who now haven’t won on the road in 17 matches following a 3-0 defeat at Pumas UNAM on Sunday.
Herculez Gomez, Paul Arriola and Edgar Castillo all started for Tijuana, who have four points on the road from a possible 51 over the last year.
Gomez sent a driven shot just over the bar in the 14th minute and almost caught out ‘keeper Alejandro Palacios at the near post in the 64th with an effort with the outside of the right boot, but the US international is undergoing somewhat of a scoring drought in the Liga MX, having not netted a league goal since March 2013.
Arriola played much more centrally than usual and came into the game more in the second 45 after a quiet first half.
In the 71st, the 18-year-old burst down the wing and sent in a cross that Fidel Martínez poked home, but the Ecuadorian was ruled offside.
Castillo featured at left back for Xolos, while Greg Garza came on for the last 10 minutes of the match.
The result leaves Xolos in eighth position in the Liga MX table, just inside the playoff places.
