American Exports: Loanee Jose Villarreal notches first goal for Cruz Azul youth side

Jose Villarreal, Rafael Baca and Michael Farfan are presented as Cruz Azul players

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jose Villarreal and Michael Farfan featured in their first official match as Cruz Azul players on Saturday, following the duo’s move south from MLS in December.

LA Galaxy loanee Villarreal didn’t take long to get going for La Máquina’s Under-20 side, scoring in the 2nd minute in the team’s 1-1 tie at Chivas. Former Philadelphia Union midfielder Farfan also started the game and went 68 minutes, with Villarreal coming off four minutes later.

There had been a report that there were difficulties in registering Villarreal and Farfan due to problems with the paperwork, but both are now eligible for first team minutes as soon as coach Luis Fernando Tena sees fit.

Cruz Azul defeated Chivas 2-0 in Estadio Omnlife in the first team game, meaning the Mexico City outfit remains in first place in the Liga MX.
