American Exports: Edgar Castillo helps extend Club Tijuana's unbeaten home run to 16 games

Edgar Castillo in action for Club Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – US international Edgar Castillo went 90 minutes on Friday as Club Tijuana extended their unbeaten home record to 16 games in their 1-0 win over Morelia in the fourth round of games in the Liga MX’s Clausura tournament.

Castillo played at left back and was slightly more restrained in his attacking intent than usual, nullifying the threat of former Xolos teammate Duvier Riascos with good effect.

The New Mexico native's most prominent moment came in the 79th minute, when he tracked back and cut out a through-ball, with Xolos defending the lead after Javier Gandolfi’s goal in the 61st.

Herculez Gomez put in a solid shift up front until being brought off in the 64th, with his best chance coming in the 49th, when he back-heeled a low, left-wing cross that almost made its way into the goal.

Joe Corona was left out of the 18 due to a reported ankle injury, with Greg Garza and Paul Arriola both left on the bench.

The victory means Tijuana – who play the LA Galaxy in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League in March – have two wins, a tie and a loss in its first four matches of the season.

In the Ascenso MX, Marco Vidal completed the full game in Lobos BUAP’s 2-1 home win over Estudiantes Tecos.
