American Exports: Herculez Gomez aims to extend streak of starts for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Club Tijuana and their American contingent are back in Liga MX action on Friday at Estadio Caliente against Morelia (Friday, 8:30 pm ET, Azteca America).


Herculez Gomez is the only American to start all three Liga MX games so far this Clausura championship for Xolos and will be hoping to make it four, while Joe Corona is a possibility to return to César Farías’ starting lineup.

At left back, Edgar Castillo has edged Greg Garza out in two of Tijuana’s three games so far, while Paul Arriola is in contention after his midweek goal for Xolos affiliate Dorados de Sinaloa.



Tigres UANL’s Jose Torres is in line for his first Liga MX start of the season with midfielder Guido Pizarro out suspended for the game against Pumas UNAM at Estadio Universitario (Saturday, 8 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

Also on Saturday, Jose Villarreal and Michael Farfan – yet to feature for Cruz Azul at all – could see action at home against Veracruz (6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).

Puebla duo DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco Fiscal are probable starters as La Franja seeks their first win of the season (Sunday, 1 pm ET, Azteca America), while Jonathan Bornstein is looking to debut in the Liga MX for Atlante against Chivas (Sunday, 6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).



In the Ascenso MX, Marco Vidal, Daniel Cuevas and Lobos BUAP open up the weekend fixtures on Friday at home against Estudiantes Tecos (6 pm ET), with Jesus Padilla’s Ballenas Galeana also in action later than evening away to Correcaminos (9:30 pm ET)

On Saturday, Austin Guerrero’s Altamira are in action against Mérida (7 pm ET).
