Chivas USA sign former academy, U-23 defender Andrew Ribeiro

Chivas USA have signed defender Andrew Ribeiro from the U-23 team, the club announced Thursday.


The 23-year-old Ribeiro joins the first time after spending three months with the U-23s, whom he joined after a successful stint in 2013 with the USL PRO's Harrisburg City Islanders. With the Rojiblancos' U-23 side, he appeared in 14 games, scoring three goals in Coast Soccer League play.



Drafted by the New York Red Bulls in the fourth round of the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft, Ribeiro instead opted to pursue an opportunity with the City Islanders, where he logged 1,672 minutes and helped the team to a playoff appearances.


Prior to his pro career, Ribeiro was a standout at Creighton University and captured 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Defender of the Year honors.
