Columbus Crew swap international spot for SuperDraft pick in trade with Vancouver Whitecaps

2014 MLS SuperDraft generic

The Columbus Crew and Vancouver Whitecaps finalized a trade Tuesday morning in which the Crew acquired a third-round selection (No. 45) in this year's SuperDraft (the third and fourth rounds will be held Tuesday at 2 pm ET via conference call) and the Whitecaps acquired an international roster slot for the 2014 season.

The move gives Vancouver additional flexibility with 11 international roster spots for the 2014 season. According to the Whitecaps, 10 of those 11 slots are already in use, including a spot for Jamaican youth international Andre Lewis, drafted with the seventh-overall pick on Thursday. The Whitecaps still have three more selections in Tuesday's third and fourth rounds, picking at Nos. 51, 58 and 64.

Columbus, which selected left back Ben Sweat with its only selection on the first day of the SuperDraft, now has two picks in the third round, choosing at No. 42 and 45.
