Tottenham Hotspur leave Jermain Defoe on the bench for 3-1 win at Swansea

Jermain Defoe

It's the best of both worlds as far as Toronto FC are concerned.

Their English Premier League partners Tottenham Hotspur win again -- they're now tied for fourth place -- and new Designated Player Jermain Defoe didn't even need to come into the match.

Manager Tim Sherwood on Sunday morning saw rumored MLS target Emmanuel Adebayor score two goals as Spurs marched on to a 3-1 win at Swansea. With the result was never really in doubt, Defoe remained on the bench as an unused sub.

The England international forward officially becomes a Toronto FC player beginning February 28, according to the transfer agreement struck between Tottenham and TFC.

Last weekend Defoe scored his first league goal for Spurs since April 2013 when he netted on a sensational strike after coming off the bench against Crystal Palace.
