Chivas USA SuperDraft Preview: Can the Goats find the next Jonathan Bornstein?

Jonathan Bornstein - 2014 SuperDraft team preview

Ahead of the 2014 SuperDraft, MLSsoccer.com is breaking down each team's needs and potential draft targets. No team has more holes to fill than Chivas USA:

It feels like every year we're back to stage one with Chivas USA rebuilding their roster. It won't happen in one draft, but it's small steps with only three picks on Thursday.

New manager WIlmer Cabrera has only been on the job for a few days and with up to 13 roster slots to fill, he'll have his work cut out for him.

Chivas USA's SuperDraft Picks: #20 (2nd Rd), #40 (3rd Rd), #59 (4th Rd)

Chivas USA's Depth Chart (17 players):

Center Mids (2): Oswaldo Minda, Marky Delgado

Left Mids (2): Gabriel Farfan, Bryan de la Fuente

Right Mids (2): Eric Avila, Mauro Rosales

Attacking Mids (2): Carlos Alvarez, Carlo Chueca

Forwards (3): Erick Torres, Caleb Calvert, Matthew Fondy

International slots (5 of 8 remaining): Oswaldo Minda, Erick Torres, Carlo Chueca

Chivas USA's Primary Need: Fullback

They don’t pick until No. 20, so it’s hard to expect a starter out of this one. But here’s the thing: This team is in better shape up the middle of the field than you think, especially given the additions of Jean-Baptiste and Rosales. It’s out wide where they look like roadkill.

Targets:Ben Sweat (South Florida), Marco Franco (UC Irvine), Robbie Derschang (Akron)

Chivas USA's Secondary Need: D-mid

Minda has been pretty good when he’s fit and eligible, but you know he’s going to miss a double-handful of games each year due to injuries and suspension. There’s no natural ball-winner on the team behind him right now – can they find one in Round 2 or 3?

Targets:Romena Bowie (VCU), George Fochive (Connecticut), Fifi Baiden (UC Santa Barbara)
