Sometimes the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words," is true. Other times, 1,000 words can't possibly begin to do a photo justice.

The above photo, a tribute to Portuguese and all-time world great Eusébio, who died over the weekend at the age of 71, is an example of exactly that.

The photo was taken during a public memorial organized by Benfica, an event that filled much of the lower bowl of the club's 65,000-seat Estádio da Luz on Monday. Fans of the club and national team stood, clapped and sang for Eusébio for much of the event.

Eusébio appeared in 301 first-team games for Benfica from 1960-75, scoring 317 goals for the club. He also netted 41 times in 64 apperances for the Portuguese national team, leading them to a third-place finish at the 1966 World Cup in England.

Following the end of his time playing his club soccer in Portugal, the Mozambican-born Portuguese forward came to North America to finish his career. He scored the game-winning goal in Toronto Metros-Croatia's 1976 Soccer Bowl victory to win that season's NASL title.
