American Exports: AZ Alkmaar squash transfer rumors surrounding hitman Aron Johannsson

AMSTERDAM – Faced with growing rumors out of Great Britain, AZ Alkmaar technical director Earnie Stewart has rubbished all recent reports about move talks involving top gun Aron Jóhannsson.

Last month, Scottish daily Record insisted that the former US national team star had shown Celtic a £2.4 million (about $4 million) price tag for the forward. This week, England's Mirror got in on the act, reporting that Stoke City were nearing a £5 million (just more than $8 million) deal for Jóhannsson.

"There is nothing going on," Stewart firmly told MLSsoccer.com on Monday afternoon.

Jóhannsson, who has also been linked with Arsenal interest in recent months, has bagged 11 Eredivisie goals and 18 across all competitions on the campaign.

Currently eighth in the table, AZ also remain alive in the KNVB Cup and Europa League. Their midseason program starts with a home friendly against Club Brugge on Tuesday, with their league return set for a January 18 visit from NAC Breda.
