Mexican media say Camilo off to Liga MX's Queretaro, but Vancouver Whitecaps deny reports

Camilo Sanvezzo celebrates

The Vancouver Whitecaps have categorically denied Mexican media reports claiming that star striker and 2013 MLS Golden Boot winner Camilo Sanvezzo is set to become the latest signing for Liga MX club Querétaro.

ESPNdeportes.com reported on Wednesday that Los Gallos Blancos, who kick off their 2013-14 Clausura campaign against Morelia this weekend, have secured the dynamic Brazilian's services “after several weeks of negotiation.”

The report even suggests that Camilo will arrive in the central Mexican city by Saturday.

But Vancouver officials strongly deny that their prized striker – whose 2014 option was picked up by the club in November – is going anywhere.

“There is no truth to that rumour,” a Whitecaps spokesperson told MLSsoccer.com via e-mail on Thursday. “Camilo is currently under contract and we look forward to seeing him and the rest of the team for the start of our preseason camp later this month.‏”

Camilo joined Vancouver in 2011 after stints in Brazil, Malta and South Korea and has scored 39 goals in 92 league appearances for the Canadian club.

He led MLS in scoring last season with 22 goals and six assists in 32 games (27 starts) and his flying side-volley against the Portland Timbers on Oct. 6 was voted MLS Goal of the Year.
